ITTF Press Release
The young rising German star Timo BOLL is in the top 10 of the World Ranking for the first time ever after his title win at the Pro Tour Austrian Open last week. Going into the top of the World BOLL took another important step: on the February Ranking he is the best ranked German, better than his compatriot Jorg ROSSKOPF who has been Germany’s best player for more than a decade. ROSSKOPF is nr. 13 on the February ranking.
Jan-Ove WALDNER who reached the final in Austria but had to give up in the middle of the match against BOLL because of an injury, also took a big step. On the January ranking he was back in the top 10 – now he is nr. 5 in the World.
In the very top of the list MA Lin (CHN) and Vladimir SAMSONOV (BLR) changed places so that MA is now nr. 2 and SAMSONOV nr. 3. WANG Liqin (CHN) is still nr. 1.
On the Women’s Ranking the 13 year old Chinese GUO Yue is constantly writing table tennis History. At the Austrian Open she became the youngest player ever to reach a Pro Tour semi-final – now she is in the top 40 in the World.
GUO Yue is nr. 39 on the February World Ranking – imagine the possibilities – at the Olympics in Beijing GUO will be 20 years old!
