ITTF Press Release
The two Chinese MA Lin and WANG Liqin are probably right now the two best players in the World. On Sunday they played a fantastic final in men’s singles at the Dawei Pro Tour Grand Finals.
After a thriller which went right to the end with a close decision in the 7th game MA Lin came out on top, but the match turned around several times, so the winner could as well have been WANG Liqin.
“After my disappointing World Cup performance in Italy in November things have been going better and better for me. Now I am beginning to profit from the experience from the many international events”, says MA Lin.
WANG Liqin normally is a slow starter but against MA Lin he went to 3-1 and looked like a winner. MA Lin though has once earlier in Tianjin proven that he never gives up – when he came back from 5-10 in the decisive game to beat Jan-Ove Waldner (SWE).
MA evened to 3-3 and in the last game he had a big lead. This time it was WANG Liqin’s turn to come back. He caught MA at 10-10, but MA finished the match when he tricked WANG with a short service to win 13-11.
