Brazil Open: Kan Yo, Tie Yana Capture Gold

Hong Kong’s Tie Yana emerged as the most successful player at the Liebherr Brazilian Open which concluded in Belo Horizonte on Sunday 15th April 2007.
She won her won the Women’s Singles title beating Russia’s Svetlana Ganina in the semis and Japan’s Ai Fukuhara in the final, whilst with Zhang Rui the duo beat Japan’s Hiroko Fujii and Saki Kanazawa to clinch the Women’s Doubles crown.
It was the seventh time that Tie Yana has won a Women’s Singles title on the ITTF Pro Tour and it was the ninth time that Tie Yana and Zhang Rui have clinched Women’s Doubles gold.
In the male event it was quite a different scenario and it was sadness for Singapore’s Gao Ning. He lost in the final of the Men’s Singles event to Japan’s Kan Yo and with Yang Zi in the final of the Men’s Doubles’ event to the Koreans Cho Eon Rae and Ko Jae Bok.
It was for Kan Yo his first ever title on the ITTF Pro Tour, whilst for Cho Eon Rae and Ko Jae Bok it was their first ever Men’s Doubles crown as a pair and for Cho Eon Rae it was more success in 2007. He has won three Under 21 Men’s Singles titles in 2007 on the ITTF Pro Tour and at the Liebherr Qatar Open in February he won the Men’s Doubles title with Korean colleague, Lee Jung Woo.
