ITTF Press Release
Top seed, Japan’s 21 year old Jun MIZUTANI won the Men’s Singles title at the JOOLA Hungarian Open in Budaörs on Sunday 17th October 2010, recovering from a three games to one deficit to beat Chinese Taipei’s CHUANG Chih-Yuan by the narrowest possible margin in the deciding seventh games.
It was for Jun MIZUTANI the second ITTF Pro Tour Men’s Singles title of his career; in 2009 he succeeded at the Korean Open.
Sadly for CHUANG Chih-Yuan, it was again so near yet so far; it was the tenth time in eleven appearances at an open international tournament on the ITTF Pro Tour that he has finished in runners up spot. The one win came at the Brazil Open in 2003.
However, he does have a degree of compensation; in 2002 in Stockholm he won the Men’s Singles title at the ITTF Pro Tour Grand Finals.
Success for Jun MIZUTANI and in the Women’s Singles event it was victory for Hong Kong’s TIE Yana; she beat Romania’s 21 year old Elizabeta SAMARA in the final, a player ten years her junior.
The victory gave TIE Yana the eighth ITTF Pro Tour Women’s Singles title of her career and brought to an end a barren spell; her most recent win prior to her success in Budaörs was in April 2007 in Brazil.
Meanwhile, in the doubles events it was success for Japan.
Kenta MATSUDAIRA and Koki NIWA won the Men’s Doubles title beating Jun MIZUTANI and Kaii YOSHIDA in all Japanese final; similarly in the Women’s Doubles event it was success for Japan.
Ai FUKUHARA and Kasumi ISHIKAWA combined to overcome the partnership of Russia’s Svetlana GANINA and Viktoria PAVLOVICH of Belarus.
