I know Barna Original, BTY Orthodox, Dr Evil and ATP Reisman. The faster is the Orthodox, it has also a thick base which makes the contact with the ball a little softer. It's the most spinny of the four, but much less spinny than a chinese short pips rubber. The Reisman is very close to the Barna, with textile under it. It was made in the spirit of the classical hard rubbers of the 40/50's. Barna and ATP are less spinny than the Orthodox, slower also, and with a good control. Dr Evil is a very special rubber : when played against hardbats, it feels like a classical hard rubber (not spinny, with a very good control), but when played against sponge, it sometimes reacts like a long pips rubber, with a rather good spin inversion, and sometimes like an anti spin rubber, it depends on the way you hit the ball. It's also very slow. Orthodox and Dr Evil are very easy to find, Reisman more difficult, because it's no more ITTF authorised, and Barna can only be found on collector bats. |
