Hi Alfie, The tip that I was given on this forum which seems to have been the most helpful when it comes to looping against underspin is this. Imagine an underspin ball coming towards you. The surface of the front of the ball (the side closest to you) is moving upwards because of the rotation. In order to gain control over the ball and lift it the upward speed of your racket must be greater than this surface speed of the ball. So concentrate on really matching or exceeding the ball spin rate with your blade by stroking upwards as much as you can. Your blade angle should be vertical or slightly closed. It's actually hard to hit the ball long by stroking upwards to quickly. The only way this happens is if you severly overestimate the amount of underspind or mistake a no-spin ball for underspin. Anyway, that's my two cents. I'm still learning as you are. |
