Thanks for the advice.. I actually did better today, and I think I learned why I was being beaten so bad by this..

I was trying to attack as late as I could to make up for my lack of space... but it turns out that the best thing for me to do was to get the ball right off the bounce, while it still had the upward momentum.

When I was trying to hit the ball after after it stopped rising, it was very hard to return a decent shot..

I guess in this case I had to commit to being either defensive (chop back - which wasn't going to happen) or offensive (early push back). Playing in the middle there was getting me killed.
