The following message (subject: Re: Defensive Play?) was posted by Francis, on 4/30/2004 5:40:46 AM:
If you want to play in a classic defense style, choose a slow defense blade (Butterfly Defence, Joola Defence, Joola Toni Hold,Tibhar COS 3...) and 2 defense rubbers with very good control and spin, better in 1.5 mm sponge with the 40 mm ball (Tibhar Vari Spin, Donic Slice 40...). If you want to play in an active defense style like most of young defenders now, choose a faster defense blade (Butterfly Matsushita Powerdefense, Donic Defplay, Stiga Tube Defense...) or an All- blade (Andro Supercore All-, Butterfly Grubba Pro...), so you can also attack, loop and counter-attack with your forehand, an All+ or Off- rubber on your forehand (Tibhar Vari Spin D-Tecs, Globe 999, Butterfly Tackifire Soft or Drive...), but with less than 2.0 mm sponge, and a defense rubber as above on your backhand. You can also choose a long pimpled rubber on your backhand, better with 0.5 or 1.0 mm sponge, rather deceptive and with good spin reversal (Butterfly Feint Long II, TSP Curl P1-R, Double Fish 1615, Stiga Destroyer...), but you'll have to train a lot to be able to play with it, because it can also be deceptive for the user! |
