To execute a topspin serve you need to making a brushing contact in an upwards direction. To keep it short you need it to land on your opponent's side short. Some people think it needs to land short on your side as well. This is wrong. You need to practice serving so the spin carries the ball just over the net. Observe where it needs to bounce on your side for this to occur. Depending on how much touch you have this might half way up your side of the table. Have fun it is a great exercise for improving your touch and feel for the game. By the way you should have a no spin, side spin and ideally a back spin variant for the same action. Then you can really benefit from having a good topspin serve. I hope this helps. Barry |
