1.)With the oncoming era of attacking-style of rubbers the defensive type players are going to have to adapt to newer rubbers as well. Even though the older long pips might have been more effective the ITTF is trying to draw in more players and viewers into the sport and viewers cant really see spin reversals and knuckle ball effect on tv so thats probably why they have shortened the aspect ratio of the pips.

2.)I used to play the 21 point style games as well but, again they want it to be more exciting for the viewers and players alike but now i have come to like the new 11 point system rather than the older one. playing 21 points can be very hard on the players and can be kind of boring to watch.
