Nittaku DO Knuckle

Select color/thickness:

4.5/5

Nittaku DO Knuckle is a unique new medium-pimples rubber with amazing wobble-effect and fantastic control, but also enables swift attack for aggressive offensive play. DO Knuckle is highly recommended for players who desire a rubber that provides the characteristics of deceptive wobble-effect pimplles as well as the speed to play offensively.

Coming from Long Pips world, as a defender, I had many issues with the P-ball... I fixed my problems using Grass D-Tecs with thin sponge, but I was not totally satisfied especially for chopping to keep the ball low. Close to the table, GDT was very effective and deceptive.
I watched some videos of japanese pro players using DO Knuckle (with 1,4mm sponge), then I decided to study the pros and cons of such a rubber (classified as a medium pimple). First of all, this rubber was designed to suit the P-ball, with vertical pips instead of horizontal. Pips are quite the same heigh as long pimples rubber, but with a bit more grip, and they are stiff. DOK is a slow, grippy rubber. Even with 0,5mm sponge, it is slow (as slow as Feint Long II or Curl P1-R). This is not a tensored rubber.
Evidence : control, easy to play even coming from LP's, this rubber allows you so much more than any LP! I use my 0.5mm DOK on a defensive blade for 2 monthes now, and I know that there is no turning back to me! Chops are so easy, so stable. But the most important is that DOK allows a hughe range of variation : both spin variation and ryhtm variation.
You can push with no spin, you can push with backspin, you can hit almost any dead ball or underspin ball, you can block, you can chop-bloc, you can chop as hell, you can play short or long... You can generate your own spin with the appropriate technic, especially while chopping and pushing. YOU decide, with your technical luggage, what you can or wish to do!
Compared with LP's, you must be carefull while returning serves, but after a few ajustements, you can make very tricky returns, garanteeing you not to be on trouble on the 3rd ball.
Conclusions : A very controlled, all-around pimple, that shines at chopping and manipulating spin! Definitely a very interesting weapon for defenders with the plastic ball. Bravo!
