There are few older reviews on this blade and I hope my review will do this fantastic blade justice. To start off, I have experience with jp petr korbel 92g, viscaria 91g, dhs W968 2022 & 2023 versions 88-89g and a combination of rubbers for each respectively. This maze advance is the lightest coming in at 78g ! Paired with hurricane 3 neo provincial blue sponge fh 39* 2.1 thickness and palio ak47 blue bh 38-40* 2.2 thickness; totally the weight of the maze advance with rubber is 154 grams ! It is super easy to hit through the core (very nice click sound), the crisp is not as crisp as viscaria nor a petr korbel only because this blade holds on to the ball for a while. You have so much time to direct the ball in the direction you want. However, landing the ball on the table is a different story. Open up too much and the ball will fly long. Close the bat too much the ball will hit net. Yes, the underlying logic is very obvious but the angle at which you hit with this blade needs to be accurate to a certain degree, it is not very forgiving in the matter of landing a kill shot and blocking. When picking rubber for this blade, since it is easy to hit through all the gears down to core, get thicker rubber 2.0 or more. The blade is softer than petr korbel which explains why it can hold the ball longer, get harder rubber for this blade ! This blade welcomes spin, you don't need tacky rubber for this blade it generates a lot of spin very easily and grips the ball for you (hard to explain) , bh loops are super easy using AK47 blue , a very non tacky rubber. The feeling when you make a spiny return or serve is very satisfying. It is very easy to hit the gears of your rubbers with this blade not to mention activate the gears of the blade it self, it's very automatic ! If you are like me coming from a more heavy set up or a more head heavy setup, you might feel you are too strong and will over shoot the ball. This is normal, once you get used to it though your wrist will not complain, your reset will be extremely fast and your transition from bh->fh or fh->bh will be super fast and easy, you will always be ready for the incoming ball. You might notice that on revspin or other reviews, they mention the feel/vibration is maxed out, this is not true when you pair it with 2.0 or more thickness hard rubber, the wood feel is more than korbel yes but it depends on how hard you grim the blade. overall though the vibration/wood feel doesn't bother my wrist over time I actually like it more. The FL handle is thicker than W968 2022-2023 version, it's slightly thicker than the petr korbel (small - mid size hands work well)
Cons:
- I do wish it was more crispy feeling to begin with, but obviously if you kill shot or flick or hit through the core, the crispyness is satisfying enough from that lol. Just keep spamming flick very easy to do , and very automatic
- With a lighter blade means less dense materials so each layer is light and soft and airy , no power (when player generates power) essentially, this is a fast (in terms of speed) offensive blade but compared to more dense materials, it is much slower. To get a fast shot in, you have to have good technique, Ik alot of people say you have to have good technique, but in this case it's not asking you to be ma long or any 2000+ usatt rated player, simply having the foundational footwork, hip and arm stroke is more than enough to send it flying, paired with dignics or tenergy this blade is a monster... but I wouldn't recommend tenergy unless it's 05 hard even then it's risky because it will be too fast of a set up given the speed from the blade and the speed of the rubber basically wont require power generated from player which is a bad thing imo
- last con, the blade offers alot of speed, this takes time to get used to for short play, your shots might go long by accident (especially coming from a more heavy set up) until you figure out how much arm/wrist stroke/energy to use your shots will not land how you want it to in the beginning, the thicker core makes this blade feel much speedier/faster than the korbel, but because the korbel offers a more dense core/materials kill shots on korbel are much faster from what I noticed.
Overall, if you are beginner/amateur/intermediate starting out, coming back, looking to switch from heavy to light set up, looking for a more controlled and less speed set up (carbon too speedy? no control? consider this Maze Advance blade !), this very well balanced blade should be a consideration !
