FiTeT Press Release
The king of Table Tennis, number one in the world ranking, Timo Boll has already finished his 24th European Championships, where tomorrow, on 6th April, the final of Men Single will take place.
Boll must be satisfied with the bronze medal: he surprisingly lost 4-0 his semifinal against his great rival Vladimir Samsonov. The player from Belarus is now the favourite to get the golden medal, which he has already won during 1998 European Championships in Eindhoven.
No doubt that Samsonov found a perfect environmental situation in Courmayeur: here he already won 2001 World Cup and in this Championships the Men Team Event for Belarus.
Anyway his supremacy on Timo Boll was evident and went over every forecast: the champion from Belarus won four sets in less than half an hour, leaving the incredulous German adversary only 24 points.
Samsonov will face another German player in tomorrow’s final. The second semifinal took place between two Germans and it ended with a suffered victory of the young Torben Wosik over the more expert Jorg Rosskopf.
RESULTS Semifinals Single Men: Vladimir Samsonov (BLR) vs. Timo Boll (GER) 4-0 (11-5, 11-8, 11-3, 11-8); Torben Wosik (GER) vs. Jorg Rosskopf (GER) 4-2 (11-8; 3-11; 11-7;11-8;9-11 ;11-8)
