One common mistake that the average player tends to make is to overplay and overpower. With the 11-point games now, you are risking even more when you playing overly aggressive. My advice is to be patient, play smart in placing your shots well in order to set yourself up for the finishing win. Have the mentality that you can out last your opponent by 1 more shot. Try not to make the poor judgement of rushing your shots and trying to kill when you are out of position!
