One of the most common mistakes players make is overpower and overkill the return shot. People tend to be overly aggressive on service return. Especially when one is having issues reading a serve, there is absolutely no reason to rush. It is better that you take your time and assure the point lands than take the chance of not landing the point at all. Playing safe on return service also does not mean not opening on a serve when the opportunity arises. This means if you can read the serve and the serve is long, take your time but do open on the point. In my personal experience, it tends to be one’s advantage to open first and take control of the point. Lastly, when in doubt of the spin, play to the middle! Logically, this makes absolute sense right? You have less of a probability of missing and letting the ball float off either side of the table if you aim for the middle of the table.
