Sharath Kamal Achanta (Kamal), one of the world’s top international table tennis champions, has agreed to an exclusive endorsement contract with Chicago-based Killerspin. Kamal, 26, is a native of Tamilnadu, India, and distinguished himself as the only men’s table tennis player from his country selected to compete in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China.
As the newest member of the Killerspin Krew, Kamal, will represent the company in promoting the burgeoning sport, now in the midst of dramatic resurgence in popularity throughout the United States and worldwide. He will feature and promote Killerspin equipment and apparel in competitions and exhibition matches, while partnering with the brand as a spokesperson committed to advancing table tennis’ awareness and growth.
A competitor in the 2008 SPINvitational in Chicago, the world’s premier table tennis charity event, Kamal is ranked the no. 1 player in India, and became the first Indian to take home the prestigious Pyongyong Invitational Tournament crown in 2007. He won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in 2006 and 2004, represented his country at the Asian Games at Qatar in 2006 and competed at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece. “We’re elated to have an athlete of Achanta’s caliber join the Killerspin Krew, and become an ally in our mission of elevating table tennis' image here in the States and abroad,” said Robert Blackwell, Jr., founder and CEO of Killerspin. “We look forward to tapping into his insights, while embracing his talent and love for this dynamic Olympic sport.”
