A league structure seems impossible to develop in the USA , because of the problems of distance involved , but there seems no reason why the national association should not take more interest in the grass roots of the sport . ETTA , far from being a perfect organization , has always been tightly integrated with the league structure , as a glance at its web site will tell you , it also runs training courses for coaches and umpires . My grouses are not concerned with ETTA , but rather the ITTF , which has implemented radical rule changes across the board without any consultation with the the local club , who dutifully pay their ETTA registration fee every time they take part in a tournament , and their fees for league membership . The past couple of years has seen the most sweeping changes in table tennis for a generation , whether this will benefit the sport in the long term remains to be seen , I am , as yet , unconvinced that these changes amount to any more than ill considered tampering , which will not result in new players attracted to the sport , but will simply alienate furthur those who already do so.
