I would agree with Kevin. The corkscrew is not hard to return once you recognize the spin. If it's high or long enough flip it or loop it. Low ones should be pushed and you can usually get a sharp angle cross court due to the bounce. The advantage of the serve is that if you mix it in with non-corkscrew serves the returner will sometimes be taken off guard by the sharp second bounce to the left and that will force a weak return or a miss. Next you can try combining corkscrew with top or side spin so that you can smoothly vary between pure underspin and straight corkscrew (the latter is pretty hard). It may be time for you to step out of the basement and join a club... |
