For banded events to work properly everyone in that band should be of the same(ish)standard. There is a rule that says the referee can give a dummy ranking to someone who is known and doesn't have a ranking(0)to stop people playing in a standard far lower than they should as nobody gains. The good player finds it to easy and the rest are fed up he is there. In reality this doesn't happen. In my area some juniors are going to GP with a chance of doing well and getting GP points and also winning money at the end only to find a band 1 standard player is playing in bands 6 and 5. Dale Barham made a comeback last year, a known top 20 player and ended up in band 6. When you are travelling miles and spending good money you want things to be done right, but not enough care is taken. I understand your frustrations. |
