Should you collect or enjoy this high quality proven Butterfly blade? I was planning to keep this blade sealed but I believe the joy of playing with this blade is was wort it! I played Timo Boll ALC before and I preferred Viscaria over it due to the slightly better compatibility with hard and tacky rubbers. The difference between the two is in the wings of the blade, Timo Boll ALC and the Anniversary blades being narrower at the wings with a more pronounced slope making the blade feeling more flex especially if the rubbers are heavy. This is the reason Viscaria handles better the heavy Chinese rubbers. The Anniversary blade is visibly built with much higher quality wood than any other Viscaria or Timo Boll blade and it feels solid when playing. My main worry was the sponge used on the handle of the new Anniversary blade but after little over one month it holds up just fine, no change of shape or color is noticeable. The feel is pleasant and it has better grip than a wood handle, time will tell if it holds up... In my setup I use a hard hybrid rubber on the forehand and softer tensor on the backhand. My blade is 82 grams and I requested the lowest weight available at the time. Paired with tensor rubbers it will play the best but you can get away with using hybrids on one side. Probably most people will use some combination of Dignics and Tenetgy but other brands play just fine at a lower price point .Was it worth it? Sure it was! Do I regret playing it? Not at all. Playing with this blade will actually make you value it more. In short I would compare this blade to the Golden Viscaria when it comes to it's solid play and scarcity.
