Lausanne 27 May 2002. The former European Champion Peter KARLSSON (SWE) has probably spent the latest weeks enjoying his title win at the Italian Open in the beginning of May
Now KARLSSON can enjoy the impact of the win on the World Ranking. After his Italian Open title he moves back into top 20 – as nr. 18 in the World.
KARLSSON has the chance to defend his ranking and even improve it this week when he takes part in the China Open in Qindao, China, together with the other top Swedes.
KARLSSON is the only big mover in the top of the Men’s Ranking. In the top 10 Jean-Michel SAIVE (BEL) changes place with KONG Linghui (CHN), so that SAIVE is now nr. 5.
LIN Ling (HKG) also won in Italy – her first tournament after changing from China to Hongkong. She moves forward so that Hongkong now has a player in the World’s top 10 (nr. 8).
Another Hongkong-player LAU Sui Fei is taking a big step. In Italy she reached the final in women’s singles and that moves her from nr. 43 to 28. WANG Nan (CHN) is still on top of the ranking trailed by compatriot ZHANG Yining. Of those two only WANG Nan planned to play China Open.
