ITTF Press Release
Lausanne, Switzerland, 1 April 2003. German Timo BOLL kept his place in the front seat on the new World Ranking issued on 1st April.
He keeps MA Lin (CHN) behind him for one more month but with a very small margin – BOLL only has 12 points more than MA Lin.
However, with a good result at the running European Championships in Courmayeur, Italy, BOLL has a very good chance of going into the World Championships in May as no. 1 in the World.
World Champion WANG Liqin (CHN) is still nr. 3, but the Olympic Champion compatriot KONG Linghui is moving the “wrong way” - he is now only the 4th Chinese.
WANG Hao’s title win at the Asian Championships moves him to no.7 and KONG is now nr. 8.
On the women’s list there are no changes among the 6 best. TIE Yana (HKG) and GUO Yue (CHN) are both back in the top 10 – as nr. 8 and 9.
The two “big movers” are KIM Kyung Ah (KOR) going from no. 24 to no 17, and LI Xiaoxia (CHN) moving from no. 27 to no. 19.
Also Italian Wenling TAN MONFARDINI has made a big move. After reaching the semi-finals at the Qatar Open she moves from no. 159 to no. 83 – and additional reward to TAN MONFARDINI who on Monday was part of the Italian women’s team who won the European Championships.
